Work to improve journeys by upgrading the M4 motorway between junction 3 at Hayes and junction 12 at Theale continues this week. 24-hour narrow lanes and a 50mph speed restriction are in place from junction 3 to junction 8/9. Between junction 8/9 and junction 12, 3 full width lanes are open to 60mph speed restrictions. Carriageway and slip road closures are planned as follows, all fully closed overnight (traffic management will usually be rolled out from 9pm and taken off by 6am).
The M4 and associated slip roads will be closed in both directions over the weekend of 4 to 7 June 2021 between junctions 4b (M25) and 3 (Hayes). This will include the clockwise and anticlockwise link roads from the M25 junction 15 to the M4 junction 4b eastbound, and the junction 4 entry slips in both directions. The closure will start after 8pm Friday 4 June and the motorway will reopen by 6am on Monday 7 June 2021. Clearly signed diversions will be in place utilising the A312, A40 and M25.
The M4 junction 6 eastbound entry slip road will be closed over the weekend of 4 to 7 June 2021. The closure will start after 8pm Friday 4 June and the motorway will reopen by 6am on Monday 7 June 2021.
This closure will be fully utilised and will be used for other work activities.
There are the following overnight carriageway closures scheduled this week:
The M4 westbound and associated slip roads will be closed between junctions 5 (Langley) and 4b (M25) including the link roads from the M25 junction 15 to the M4 junction 4b on Tuesday 1, Wednesday 2, and Thursday 3 June 2021. Traffic will be diverted off the M4 at junction 4b to join the M25. At the junction 14 on the M25, traffic should follow the A3113, A3044 and the A4 to re-join the M4 at junction 5 to continue the journey west
Slip road closures planned for next week are as follows:
M4 junction 6 – the M4 junction 6 eastbound entry slip road will be closed overnight Tuesday 1, Wednesday 2, and Thursday 3 June 2021.
M4 junction 10 – the M4 junction 10 westbound entry slip road (from the A329(M) eastbound towards Winnersh) will be closed overnight Wednesday 2 June.
M4 junction 10 – the M4 junction 10 eastbound entry slip road (from the A329(M) westbound towards Bracknell) will be closed overnight Friday 4 June.
M4 junction 11 – the M4 junction 11 eastbound entry slip road will be closed overnight Thursday 3 June 2021.
M4 junction 12 – the M4 junction 12 eastbound entry slip road will be closed overnight Friday 4 June 2021.
In the event of poor weather conditions or other issues out of our control, planned work may be postponed at short notice. Contingency bookings are also in place, but these are only used if previously planned work is delayed and there is no clash with other closures. If work completes on an earlier day the motorway may not close, or if work completes ahead of schedule the motorway may reopen early. Signage will be in place on the network to notify of closures and diversions.
